Hockey After Dark Rules

Fresh rosters, recorded results, and a Season-long chip race. Here is how registration, games, wagers, and payouts fit together.

Seasons → Sessions → Games

Season
The overall competition. Join a Season to receive its starting chip bankroll and participate. Each Season has its own balance and standings; chips do not move between Seasons. Check the Season’s console requirements and set your profile console before joining.
Session
A scheduled event within a Season, with a registration deadline, entry fee, wager settings, and winner prize. Active Season members can register before the deadline using their primary and secondary positions. The entry fee is charged when registration succeeds.
Game
A matchup created from that Session’s registered players. A Session can produce multiple games. Each game has two teams of six, with its own roster, reviewed betting lines, results, and payouts.

You can participate as a player or as a bettor. Betting on a published game requires an active membership in its Season, but does not require registration for that Session. All stakes and payouts use your chip balance in that Season.

Registration & Roster Randomization

After registration closes, staff generate as many complete games as the eligible registration pool can support. Each team needs a C, LW, RW, LD, RD, and G, plus at least one player registered as willing to captain. You can only be assigned to a position you registered for.

The generator randomizes the pool and prioritizes primary-position assignments while satisfying position and captain requirements. Roster eligibility is based on those requirements; player ratings do not determine roster selection. Being registered does not guarantee a place if a complete team cannot be formed.

Draft rosters are private while staff review them. They can be re-rolled only while every game in the Session remains private, with no wagers or results. Players receive their draft notifications when their game is published and betting opens.

Unassigned registrants remain available as alternates. Staff can replace a roster player with an eligible alternate while retaining a captain. A replaced player’s entry fee remains recorded and is not automatically refunded; the replacement earns their own recorded player-stat payout. Late replacements require results to be imported and reviewed again.

Betting

Wagers are available only during a game’s Betting Period. They close when staff mark the game ready. Staff may enable or disable each wager type for a Session.

WagerWhat you chooseStake & restrictions
MoneylineTeam A or Team B to win.At least 5 chips, in multiples of 5, up to the Session’s maximum wager.
Player PickA roster player whose team you expect to win.Fixed 100-chip stake. The Moneyline / Over–Under maximum does not reduce this fixed stake.
Over / UnderWhether the two teams’ combined final goals finish over or under the displayed total. At least 5 chips, in multiples of 5, up to the Session’s maximum wager. Totals use half goals, so there is no tie at the line.

If you play in this game: you can place only a Moneyline wager on your own team. You cannot bet against your team, place a Player Pick, or bet Over / Under on that game.

If you are not on this game’s roster: you may place one of each enabled wager type. The limit applies separately to Moneyline and Over / Under. All accepted types appear on one game slip; you can add an unused type while betting remains open.

Your stakes are deducted immediately. You must have enough chips for all selected wagers. Accepted wagers cannot be edited or placed twice for the same type. Moneyline odds and total-goal lines lock when betting opens; each Player Pick’s rating and bonus percentage lock when that wager is accepted.

If staff replace your picked player, the Pick follows the same roster slot to the replacement. Your accepted bonus percentage remains unchanged.

Payouts & Examples

Player earnings

Roster players earn chips from their imported personal statistics using the Session’s saved scoring rules. Players on the winning team also receive the Session’s winner prize. Per-unit rules multiply a recorded stat by its chip rate; range rules pay a flat amount for a matching range. Disabled stats do not earn chips, and personal-stat payouts cannot fall below zero.

The default preset pays skaters 50 chips per goal, 25 per assist, 10 per hit, and 10 per block. Goalies receive 10 per save and lose 10 per goal allowed in the stat calculation. Staff can configure different rules, so check the Session’s scoring information rather than assuming these defaults apply.

Winning wagers

A winning return includes the original stake. A losing wager has no return; its stake was already deducted when you placed it.

ExampleTotal returnedProfit above the stake

100-chip Player Pick; picked player’s stat payout is 250 chips; locked bonus is 60%250 chips: 100 stake + 150 bonus150 chips

Positive Moneyline odds add stake × odds ÷ 100. Negative odds add stake × 100 ÷ the absolute odds. Fractional chip profit is rounded down. Over / Under pays twice the stake when correct—for example, 7 combined goals wins Over 6.5.

Player Pick ratings

A Player Pick pays only if the selected player’s team wins. The return is the 100-chip stake plus a percentage of that player’s personal-stat earnings; the winning-team prize is not included in the bonus calculation. New Pick bonuses round to the nearest 5 chips.

Locked ratingStat-payout bonus
1 star100%
2 stars80%
3 stars60%
4 stars40%
5 stars20%

Ratings use paid-out game history within the Season, separately for forwards, defense, and goalies. A player stays at three stars through their first five appearances in that position group. Ratings also stay neutral when there are too few eligible comparison players. More established ratings consider performance and wins; higher-rated Picks carry a smaller bonus.

Older games marked with the original wager system retain their accepted rules: a combined winner/Player Pick wager, even-odds winner returns, and the original separate Pick scoring. Older accepted Pick rounding terms are also preserved. The saved slip’s breakdown is authoritative for these games.

Results, Review & Refunds

Staff assign clubs and a results-capable staff member before a game starts. Afterward, they import the match, map every roster player to their recorded stats, and confirm the reviewed results. Importing or confirming alone does not credit chips. Payouts are issued only after confirmation, and a settled game cannot be paid twice.

Unpaid results can be reopened for correction. Game Review’s This Game view shows the recorded stats; imported but unpaid results remain provisional.

  • Cancelled game: recorded game entry fees and accepted open wager stakes are refunded. Settled games cannot be cancelled.
  • Cancelled Session before drafting: registered entry fees are refunded.
  • Unused alternate: unassigned registration fees are refunded when staff close the Session, after all games are settled or cancelled.
  • Replaced player: removal does not automatically refund the entry fee.
  • Cancelled Season membership: staff preserve the balance and existing commitments. The registration must be reinstated before new signups or wagers.

Check your Transaction History for credits, refunds, adjustments, and the resulting balance. Notifications announce published roster assignments, replacements, cancellations/refunds, payouts, registration changes, staff adjustments, and finalized Season awards.

Statistics, Performance & Season Awards

Official history and statistics use verified, paid-out appearances. Profile Performance Scores use a separate 1–10 formula, and the score card averages the latest five eligible games in the selected scope and position group. Scores are different from wagering stars and do not directly determine chip payouts. The Archetype chart compares eligible playing history with other players; sparse or missing history may not produce a chart.

When all Sessions are closed and games finalized, Super Admin can end the Season and select Winner Only, Top 3, Top 5, or Top 10 placement awards. Final ranking uses chips first, then wins, fewest losses, earliest Season registration, and finally player ID. Statistical awards recognize Most Goals, Most Points, Most Goalie Wins, and Most Goalie Saves; tied statistical leaders share the award.

Final Standings and awards are saved at Season end. Final bankrolls and registrations are frozen. Ordinary live chip leaderboards can show shared ranks for equal balances; Final Standings use the full tie-break order above.

Recovery Grants & Staff Bonuses

If your Season balance cannot cover a Session entry fee, choose Get back on the ice. A recovery grant covers only the shortfall and registers you in the same transaction. Grants are available once per Session while registration is open, even with pending payouts. If your entry is refunded, the grant-funded part is reversed; only your own contribution is returned.

Competitive chips equal your spendable balance minus net recovery grants received in that Season. Reversed grants no longer count as assistance. Competitive totals can be negative after losses; your spendable balance stays nonnegative. Staff adjustments and Season-wide bonuses count normally. Bonuses go to active Season members. All grants, reversals, bonuses and adjustments are recorded in Transaction History. Finalized Seasons are locked.

Admins may reassign captaincy to any rostered teammate before a game is finalized. This does not alter wagers or Player Picks. Initial roster generation still requires captain volunteers.
